Gingerbread House Decorating

Contest begins 8:30 a.m.

Each participant will be supplied with all they'll need: an assembled gingerbread house, icing, and candies for decorating. The contest begins at 8:30 a.m. and at 9:15 the public is invited to stop in, enjoy some refreshments and browse the masterpieces created by all those little hands! At 9:30 winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded. Participants will be divided into two age categories (ages 7, 8 & 9 and 10 &11). Each age category will have two winners: Best Decorated and Most Creative. Once the event is over, each child will be invited to take his/her decorated gingerbread house home. There is limited seating for this workshop therefore pre-registration is required. A minimal fee of $3 per child is due upon registration. Registration forms now available. Cancer Support Group to Meet at VMH
The Veterans Memorial Hospital Cancer Support Group will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m. in the Large Conference Room, located on the lower level of the hospital.  A video, entitled “Experiencing the Soul During Life” will talk about our moment to moment awareness we have, beyond our physical body and personality.
This Cancer Support Group is open to individuals with cancer, those in remission, cancer survivors, and their family members or friends. A speaker will be providing educational, useful information at each meeting, with time allowed for sharing experiences and questions.

Quillin’s Food Ranch & VMH Offer Body Mass Index Testing
Veterans Memorial Hospital will be visiting Quillin’s Food Ranch in Waukon to perform free body mass index tests to the shoppers in the store on Thursday, Sept. 18.  These free tests will be available from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. 
The Quillin’s in-store free health testing is held the third Thursday of each month.  A different free health test is offered each month.  There is no fasting required for any of these tests.  All tests have immediate results and any high readings will be referred to a physician for a more detailed test.

Hospital Auxiliary Euchre Marathon
The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital will be holding their monthly Euchre Marathon for all individuals of the community interested on Thursday, Sept. 18.  Anyone is welcome to attend, even if you are not an Auxiliary member.  The Euchre marathons are held the third Thursday of each month at the Senior Citizens Room at the Waukon Wellness Center.
The Auxiliary’s Euchre Marathons begin at 11:30 a.m. with dinner if you chose.  Please call Deloras Paus at 568-3805 if you wish to eat dinner.  Card playing will follow at 12:30 p.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m.  The cost is $3.00 per person with all proceeds going towards the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital.  Prizes will be awarded.
Anyone interested in attending, but preferring to play Bridge is also welcome to join in.  It is asked that you come with your table of 4 players, however.

Dementia Caregivers Support Group Meeting at VMH
The Dementia Support Group meets every other month at Veterans Memorial Hospital.  The next meeting will be held Thursday, September 25, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Large Conference Room, located on the lower level of the hospital.

These Alzheimer’s Association support groups give caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia the opportunity to meet others who are caring for someone with this disease.  During the meetings, caregivers will have a chance to share their experiences and learn more about the disease.
