A Tree Story...

Imagine yourself as a tree standing on the edge of the woods. You have weathertreepic2ed many storms, bitter winters and dry summers. You were the seedling that made it, surviving the rabbits, the deer and the voles. Now you are in your prime, a foundation of deep roots, a fine specimen with a sturdy trunk who rests during the winter and puts out glorious green plumage in the spring. By summer you offer the best shade around. This year, however,  you notice that the leaves just off the left main branch are starting to curl, just a little bit, not too much to be concerned about yet so you'll just keep an eye on it. Time passes as it always does and the next summer rolls around and you notice that there are two more areas with curled leaves. Enough of this you say and you call out the tree MD. He says you have leaf-curling disease and you must put salve on each of the curling leaves. "Try that", he says, "call me back if it doesn't work". You diligently apply the salve until autumn when the leaves drop. All winter you pray that this problem will be gone. Next spring three more areas appear and by summer many of the leaves are turning yellow and falling off early. You've called the tree doctor and now you are applying four different drugs to the leaves in an effort to save them. It's really affecting how well you make chlorophyll so you are exhausted all of the time. You are concerned about the future. Its beginning to look like next year you will be firewood.

What the tree didn't pay attention to was that new housing development going in next to his forest. In digging out the new area and building roads, waterways had been diverted and the tree's deep roots no longer had access to water and certain nutrients. Chemicals had been spilled at the construction site which polluted the area. New lawns had been planted with lots of fertilizers and fill dirt which changed the pH of the surrounding soil. The deep roots, the foundation of this tree's health had been permanently changed. Only by treating the soil, feeding it, watering it and balancing its pH and cleaning up the soil will the tree regain it health. The leaves were only the symptoms of a greater problem. Treating the leaves will never heal the tree.

treepicHow might you affect your foundation? Human foundations are built on healthy foods, adequate pure drinking water, balanced pH, essential vitamins, minerals and fats. In addition we need exercise and mobility, work that fulfills us, play that sustains us and loving relationships. We may also need to decrease our toxic load. If you are having lots of symptoms, taking more and more drugs to control those symptoms, feeling tired all of the time or feeling stressed and overwhelmed you might want to look to your foundation.
